I just had this argument with my sister. I'm not the biggest mushroom fan, but I do eat them without a fight. People always shout about how they're fungus - what about cheese? That's just mold...
Shhh....don't remind me. It's different though as cheese grows its mold on nice little shelves in refrigerated boxes...mushrooms grow in smelly earth on slimey trees or rotten stuff...yuk!
Actually, mushrooms are grown in straight poop. It needs to be a highly fertile (read full of doodoo) ground to have acceptable growing conditions for them.

And they aren't washed... just BRUSHED off.
Hence why i don't eat them. YUCK!
